Concrete Truss Screed

Concrete truss screeds are rigid, span-type screeding systems used to level large areas of freshly poured concrete across screed rails or forms. The truss screed frame is dragged or vibrated across the surface, striking off excess concrete and compacting the top layer to produce a flat, even finish at the correct level. Truss screeds are well suited to bridge decks, highway slabs, industrial floors and large pavement applications where consistent span and high output are required. At BetonTools, we stock concrete truss screeds including systems from Bartell Morrison.

How concrete truss screeds work
A truss screed consists of a rigid aluminium or steel truss frame that spans between two screed rails or forms set to the finished slab level. The frame is pulled along the rails while a vibrating mechanism (eccentric shaft) consolidates the concrete surface beneath. The angled, super-rigid truss design resists deflection across wide spans, maintaining consistent surface elevation. Vibration frequency (cycles per minute) and engine power (typically Honda petrol engines) determine throughput and surface quality. Engine kits are factory-installed on truss sub-sections to minimise site setup time. Truss screeds are available in modular sections that can be combined for wider spans, and are suited to slab-on-grade, bridge deck and pavement applications where mechanical vibration and consistent span levelling are required.
