A wider cutting width covers more surface area per pass, reducing the number of passes needed on wide boards. Most electric planers feature a dust bag or port for connection to a vacuum to keep the work area clean. A rebating capability (ability to cut a stepped rebate along the edge of a board) adds versatility for joinery applications.
