Types of hard hats
Hard hats are available in several brim styles and classes. Standard peak hard hats (cap style) are the most common on Australian sites, providing front peak protection in a lightweight form. Broad brim hard hats extend protection to the sides and back of the neck, particularly suited to outdoor work in sun-exposed environments. Hard hats are classified by their electrical insulation rating — Type 1 (no electrical rating) and Type E (electrical hazard rated) — and by impact class. Look for hard hats certified to AS/NZS 1801 — the Australian and New Zealand standard for occupational protective helmets. Many models accept accessory attachments including earmuff attachments and face shields for combined head and face protection.
